Summary
 

The Housing Authority of Champaign County (HACC) is a dynamic organization dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families in Champaign County, Illinois. We are committed to fostering vibrant communities through innovative housing solutions and supportive services.

 

The Housing Navigator plays a vital role in facilitating housing solutions for tenants within Champaign County. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, this position involves assisting clients in their search for suitable housing, liaising with landlords, exploring opportunities for new housing developments, and advocating for clients' needs. The Housing Navigator will also collaborate with non-clients seeking housing assistance and serve as the primary point of contact (POC) for all landlords within the region
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Guide and support tenants in their search for appropriate housing options.

·         Provide resources and assistance in navigating housing applications and requirements.

·         Offer personalized support tailored to individual needs and circumstances.

·         Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available housing options and market trends.

·         Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local landlords.

·         Communicate effectively to negotiate rental agreements and lease terms.

·         Address any concerns or issues raised by landlords in a timely and professional manner.

·         Act as the main point of contact for all landlord inquiries and collaborations.

·         Identify and explore potential opportunities for new housing developments.

·         Research and assess feasibility, funding options, and community needs.

·         Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the development process.

·         Organize and facilitate landlord luncheons to foster networking and collaboration.

·         Represent the Housing Authority at community events and meetings.

·         Establish partnerships with local organizations to expand housing resources and support.

·         Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to housing assistance.

·         Stay informed about relevant regulations, policies, and best practices in the field.

·         Advocate for clients' rights and needs within the housing system.

·         Assist clients in addressing any barriers or challenges they may encounter.

·         Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

 

Other Duties:

 

·         Conduct housing assessments and develop individualized housing plans for clients.

·         Collaborate with property management teams to ensure timely resolution of maintenance issues and tenant concerns.

·         Assist clients in accessing supportive services such as transportation, childcare, and healthcare.

·         Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, housing placements, and referrals.

·         Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions, and strategic planning initiatives.

·         Assist in the preparation of grant applications, reports, and funding proposals.

·         Stay informed about relevant local, state, and federal housing policies and regulations.

·         Provide assistance to non-English speaking clients through interpretation or translation services.

·         Support outreach efforts to raise awareness about housing resources and programs.

·         Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director or Executive Director to support the overall mission and objectives of the Housing Authority.

 

Skills and Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree in social work, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field preferred.

·         Previous experience in housing assistance, social services, or a related field is advantageous.

·         Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.

·         Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

·         To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position.

·         Daily movements include sitting; standing; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office. 

·         Must be able to travel between different worksites and attend offsite meetings/events.

·         Must be able to communicate via email and verbally via telephone and video conference software (ie Zoom or Teams). 

·         The employee may occasionally transport up to 20 pounds. 

·         Must be able to work in a deadline-focused and fast-paced environment. 

·         Must be able to pass a drug screening test administered by HACC's designated provider.

·         Valid State Issued Driver's license and be insurable under the agency's commercial insurance policy.
