Eddie Adair, Secretary 

Appointed by the City of Urbana, 2006.

Commissioner Adair retired as Urbana’s first black Police Chief in 2005.  His extensive career in police work has equipped him well to relate to the needs of the community and its residents.

Dr. Grant Henry

Appointed by the Champaign County Board, 2004.

Earned a Ph.D. in the College of Applied Life Sciences from the University of Illinois. 

Commissioner Henry is a retired school administrator who has lived in the Champaign community as an avid Illini fan.  Dr. Henry has enjoyed serving as a member of the University of Illinois Alumni Board, Illinois Connection, Illini Rebounders and Quarterback Clubs.

Reverend Larry Lewis, President

Appointed by the City of Champaign, 2012.

Earned a BS in Liberal Arts and Science from the University of Illinois and an MA in Social Justice Profession from the University of Illinois, Springfield. 

Commissioner Lewis is currently the pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Champaign.  After 33 years of service, he retired from the Illinois Bureau of Disability Determination Services.  Rev. Lewis also believes that you must be involved within your community to help make a difference in society.   He is involved with Illinois One Family One Child and serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary.  Rev. Lewis also serves as the Secretary, Parliamentarian and Social Action Chairperson of the Ministerial Alliance of Springfield and Champaign, IL.

Jim Rose, Vice-Chair

Appointed by the City of Champaign, 2012.

Earned a BS and MS in Finance from the University of Illinois.

Commissioner Rose has had a 32-year career in Affordable Housing at the University of Illinois Housing Research and Development, Mental Health Center of Champaign County and Homestead Corporation of C-U.  Additionally, Jim serves the community through volunteer work and is actively involved in Neighborhood Services Advisory Board, Bristol Park Steering Committee and as a Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary member.

Linda Turnbull, Resident Advisor

Appointed by the Champaign County Board, 2015.

Earned a BA in General Studies and MS in Training and Development Technology from Eastern Illinois University. 

Commissioner Turnbull currently works at Champaign-Urbana Area Project under the National and Community Service AmeriCorps Vista Program.  She is a 2016 Dave Benton Difference Maker STAR Award winner, along with earning many other awards for her service and efforts within the Champaign County community.

Clyde Walker

Appointed by the City of Champaign, 2003.

As a participant in the Housing Choice Voucher program, Commissioner Walker provides valuable perspective and insight and can relate to our community, it’s residents and their needs.  Clyde previously served the City of Urbana as a member of the Mayor’s Neighborhood Safety Task Force.

Danielle Chynoweth 

Appointed by the City of Urbana, 2017.

Earned an MA in Political Science from the New School for Social Research.

Currently serves as the Supervisor of Cunningham Township, providing the last safety net for the lowest income residents of Urbana. From 2014-2016 Danielle was the Organizing Director at the Center for Media Justice, where she coordinated a national network to win campaigns for net neutrality, prison phone justice, and broadband expansion for low-income families.  For 14 years she was Vice-President and partner of Pixo, a design and technology company in Urbana. She was awarded McKinley Foundation Social Justice Award in 2018, Woman of the Year by Central Illinois Business Magazine in 2011, the Ace Award for Creative Community Service in 2007, and was named a Media Giraffe by the University of Massachusetts in 2005.
