HOUSING AUTHORITY OF CHAMPAIGN COUNTY'S YOUTHBUILD GRADUATION CEREMONY

Champaign, IL. July 23, 2021. The Housing Authority of Champaign County's (HACC) YouthBuild Program will hold its second Commencement Ceremony on July 24th, 2021, at 12:00 PM. Nineteen young adults will graduate with either a high school diploma, OSHA, Flaggers, or NCCER certifications. The Commencement Ceremony will stream on HACC's YouthBuild's Facebook page.

HACC's Executive Director, Lily L. Walton, expressed the following remarks: "As I reflect on the difficult year it has been for our community, it is wonderful to see that our YouthBuild program has continued to allow so many young people the opportunity to earn their high school diploma while networking and engaging with employers in pursuit of building a brighter future for themselves and their families."

Board Chairman, Dr. Grant G. Henry, who spoke during the first ceremony highlighting the program's early successes, stated: "We are so proud of the youth in our program. Some have to overcome many barriers to succeed, and are providing the necessary services they need to accomplish their goals"

HACC YouthBuild is a community-based, pre-apprenticeship program designed to offer a unique second chance to at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are high school dropouts, adjudicated youth, youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, homeless youth, and other disconnected youth populations. YouthBuild provides basic education, occupational training, and leadership development while addressing several core issues important to low-income communities: affordable housing, education, and employment. YouthBuild is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Labor.
