Veterans Housing

HACC administers two programs that specifically provide assistance for veterans.

Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) developed the supportive housing program known as HUD-VASH, with the primary goal of moving Veterans out of homelessness into permanent housing. HACC and the VA Illiana Health Care System HUD-VASH program serves up to 32 HUD-VASH Veteran households. While HACC provides the housing subsidy to support access to safe, affordable housing, the VASH case management team provides supportive services to assist with housing stability and community integration.

Veterans are referred to HUD-VASH through coordinated outreach to Veterans experiencing homelessness and offered program admission based on prioritization for chronically homeless and other vulnerable populations. The VA homeless program is an active member of the community Continuum of Care (CoC), Continuum of Service Providers for the Homeless (CSPH) and works with community outreach workers in identifying homeless Veterans and linking Veterans to available permanent housing supports. Veterans must meet HUD-VASH program eligibility criteria per the VA program requirements before being referred to HACC for voucher assistance. Questions about HUD-VASH can be directed to HUD-VASH Senior Social Worker, Angelique Forney, LCSW at 217-304-1408.
