Champaign, IL. November 5, 2021. The Housing Authority of Champaign County's (HACC) YouthBuild Program is currently recruiting youth between the ages of 16 and 24 for its Spring 2022 Cohort. HACC YouthBuild is a community-based, pre-apprenticeship program designed to offer a unique second chance to at-riskyouth between the ages of 16 and 24 who are high school dropouts, adjudicated youth, youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, homeless youth, and other disconnected youth populations. YouthBuild provides basic education, occupational training, and leadership development while addressing several core issues important to low-income communities: affordable housing, education, and employment.

The Housing Authority of Champaign County's YouthBuild Program will accept ten motivated students for its Spring Cohort which will run from January through June of 2022. Students must have a minimum of sophomore-level high school transferrable credits to be eligible. The Program will emphasize a construction curriculum and will require students to complete community service and hands-on work experience. Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at the HACC's Administrative Office. The skills acquired by young people during their time in the program can be applied to secondary education or career options in the future ultimately leading to self-sufficiency. There will be a mandatory Mental Toughness assessment for program fit beginning Monday, January 3, 2022.

We will be hosting an informational session on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 pm for any young people, parents, or caregivers interested in learning more about the program and would like the opportunity to meet current staff and students. The meeting will be held at the Housing Authority of Champaign County's Administrative Office, 2008 N. Market St., Champaign, IL 61822. RSVPs are welcome but not required.
