Veterans Housing Opening Celebration

December 11, 2017 - The Housing Authority of Champaign County, in partnership with the City of Urbana, Brinshore Development (Northbrook, Illinois), Homestead Corporation, and the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), celebrated the construction completion of Highland Green Apartments with a recognition luncheon on December 11, 2017. 

Highland Green is located adjacent to Crystal View Apartments in the City of Urbana. Crystal View is the site of a former public housing community and was also redeveloped in partnership between HACC and Brinshore Development. The property provides 9 residential units for veterans and 24 units for low-income families.

Attending the celebration were dignitaries including Mayor Diane Marlin, City of Urbana, and Christine Moran, Managing Director, Multi-Family Financing Department, Illinois Housing Development Authority. David Brint, Co-Founder of Brinshore Development, Aaron Smith, Executive Director of Homestead Corporation, along with Members of the Board of Directors of Homestead; and Members of the Board of Commissioners of the Housing Authority, were also recognized at the luncheon.

Highland Green offers lovely, single-family homes and apartment duplexes comprised of one, two and three bedrooms options with spacious rooms, exceptional amenities and sustainable features. The property is surrounded by expansive green spaces and a new on-site community garden. There are several existing, shared amenities with the Crystal View property including a playground, parking spaces, fitness center and a community room.

The building's design has environmentally friendly components and the apartments feature systems and appliances that meet the Energy Star certification requirements. The total development costs for the project were $7.8 million dollars, funded with Low Income Housing Tax Credits provided by IHDA and Project-Based Vouchers provided by HACC.
